CARMA: at the MCA, to be rescheduled

POSTPONED: CARMA: A Musical Celebration of the American Automobile
by internationally acclaimed singer and pianist Carol Welsman and her band September 23, 2015 at the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART, Chicago

Come and experience the world debut concert of CARMA: A Musical Celebration of the American Automobile by internationally renowned pop/jazz singer and pianist Carol Welsman and her band. This one-of-a-kind musical voyage in time pays tribute to the iconic American car and the many great artists it inspired over the years. CARMA is Carol’s 11th career album to date. This exciting premiere concert is one of the year-long “Concours Series” of special events organized by the Concours d’Elegance of Chicago to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and other local charities.

The concert will not only star Carol and her band performing the music from the CARMA album for the first time, but also provide a unique opportunity to view some of the rare cars featured in the album’s songs and displayed for the occasion on the Museum of Contemporary Arts’ outdoor terrace.

Whether you’re seeing the USA in your Chevrolet, getting your kicks on Route 66 or cruising along in your Little Deuce Coupe, this will be a road trip you won’t forget, thanks to Carol’s first-ever such compilation of these legendary car songs, honoring some of America’s most beloved artists. Their contribution is priceless. Their legacy, timeless.

Known for her exceptional virtuosity and boundless creativity, Carol interprets a wide array of musical genres: from rock ‘n’ roll to rhythm & blues, to country classics, swing, doo wop and rap, among others. She and her band breath new life into these highly popular songs created over a period of seventy years that, to this day, remain more vibrant than ever.

The CARMA album and concert will introduce several original songs composed and arranged by Carol, as well as My Convertible Cadillac, a wonderful tune co-written in 1947 by the Bobby and Cynthia Troup couple of Get Your Kicks on Route 66 fame, and as of yet unreleased.
